Pressure washing services
in Cannon Hill
Cannon Hill is a well-connected eastern Brisbane suburb of 3.8 square kilometres, defined by its own train station, a major bus interchange, Bulimba Creek along its eastern boundary and the 90-hectare Minnippi Parklands. The suburb's housing stock runs from original post-war fibro cottages to renovated family homes and newer townhouses — each requiring different exterior cleaning methods. Washing Master provides pressure washing, soft washing and roof cleaning across Cannon Hill.
Named after a house, built by meatworks workers, transformed by a golf course on old landfill
Despite what many locals believe, Cannon Hill was not named after a cannon used to guide ships up the Brisbane River. The suburb's name most likely comes from Cannon Hill House — a residence built in 1867 by the Weedon family, located opposite what is now the Cannon Hill State School on Wynnum Road. An older theory holds that a surveyor in the area noted two tree stumps resembling cannon on the hill, and another that a settler's son named Ernest took shelter in a hollow log nearby in 1864 — but the Weedon house explanation is the most documented.
The suburb remained a rural outpost well into the late 1800s, even after the Cleveland railway line opened in 1889 — there was no station at Cannon Hill, with the closest being Bulimba Station (now Morningside). The suburb's transformation into a residential community accelerated dramatically after 1913 when the Swift Company Meatworks opened beside the river. Workers moved into the area, a village formed, and by 1915 the Cannon Hill State School had opened to serve the growing population.
Today's suburb is defined by two very different landscape features. Along Creek Road, the Minnippi Parklands — 90-plus hectares of open space including an 18-hole public golf course opened in 2018 — sit on a rehabilitated old landfill site along the western bank of Bulimba Creek. The creek itself forms the eastern boundary, its corridor of parkland and vegetation creating both a lifestyle asset and a source of elevated humidity for properties at the suburb's edges.
Creek moisture, parkland debris and a housing stock that spans 80 years
Cannon Hill's varied housing ages — from original post-war fibro cottages to renovated Queenslanders and modern townhouses — combined with Bulimba Creek's moisture corridor and the Minnippi Parklands on its doorstep, create specific exterior cleaning needs across the suburb.
Bulimba Creek creates elevated moisture conditions
Bulimba Creek runs along Cannon Hill's eastern boundary as a continuous water feature and wildlife corridor. Properties in the eastern sections of the suburb — particularly those backing onto or near Creek Road parklands — experience higher ambient humidity that feeds mould and algae growth on all exterior surfaces. The flat, low-lying terrain near the creek holds moisture longer after rain than elevated suburban areas, accelerating organic growth on driveways, rendered walls and roof tiles.
Minnippi Parklands generates ongoing leaf and organic debris
The 90-hectare Minnippi Parklands along Creek Road — built on the site of Brisbane's former Cannon Hill landfill — includes a lake, tidal creek and extensive native vegetation. Properties adjacent to or near the parklands receive continuous organic debris on roofs, gutters and driveways. Gutters on these properties fill faster than in more open areas, and the shade from mature parkland trees accelerates lichen growth on roof tiles.
Post-war fibro and chamfer board homes need soft washing
Cannon Hill has significant post-war housing stock — original fibro sheeting (fibrous cement), chamfer board and weatherboard cottages built from the late 1940s onward. These materials are sensitive to high-pressure washing, which can crack fibrous cement, force water behind cladding and strip paint. Soft washing at low pressure is the correct method for these homes — it removes mould and algae without damaging the original cladding that is expensive to replace.
Renovated and rebuilt homes on old cottage sites
Many of Cannon Hill's original post-war cottages have been renovated or replaced with modern rendered homes on the same blocks. These newer builds develop algae on rendered facades within 12–18 months in Brisbane's subtropical climate — particularly on the more shaded, lower-lying sections near the creek. The suburb now has a significant mix of original cladding homes and modern rendered properties, requiring different cleaning approaches on the same street.
High traffic roads create surface dust accumulation
Wynnum Road and Creek Road are major arterials that carry significant traffic through and around Cannon Hill. Properties within a few streets of these roads accumulate fine traffic dust on rendered facades, roof surfaces and windows that bonds over months and dulls the appearance of otherwise well-maintained homes. This is particularly noticeable on lighter-coloured render that is common on Cannon Hill's newer builds.
14% annual growth makes presentation a real financial decision
Cannon Hill's median house price has grown 14.3% in the past year to $1.6 million, with properties selling in an average of 26 days. In a fast-moving market at this price point, buyers inspect carefully and factor maintenance condition into their offers. A clean, well-presented exterior supports the asking price and leaves less room for price negotiation based on perceived deferred maintenance.
Pressure washing and exterior cleaning for Cannon Hill homes
Cannon Hill's mix of post-war fibro cottages, renovated weatherboard homes and new rendered builds means we assess every job before starting — the method for a 1950s fibro cottage is completely different from a 2015 rendered brick home on the same street.
House washing & soft washing
Low-pressure soft wash for Cannon Hill's post-war fibro, weatherboard and chamfer board homes. These original cladding materials require careful, low-pressure cleaning — soft washing with biodegradable solution removes mould and algae without cracking fibrous cement or forcing water behind old cladding. For modern rendered homes, soft washing safely removes the algae growth that appears on render within 12–18 months in Brisbane's climate.
Driveway & concrete cleaning
High-pressure cleaning for concrete driveways, paved areas and paths. Cannon Hill's flat terrain and creek proximity means driveways in the lower-lying eastern sections of the suburb stay damp longer and develop algae faster than in elevated suburbs. Pre-treatment is included to lift embedded algae and organic staining before pressure is applied. Sealing available to extend the clean.
Roof cleaning & gutter flush
Low-pressure roof wash for tile and Colorbond roofs. Properties near Minnippi Parklands and Bulimba Creek accumulate organic debris in gutters and lichen on roof planes faster than properties in more open areas. Full gutter flush and downpipe check included — important for Cannon Hill's flat-roofed sections where blocked downpipes cause fascia and ceiling damage quickly.
Window cleaning
Streak-free internal and external window clean. Traffic dust from Wynnum Road and Creek Road settles on window glass and creates a persistent film that reduces natural light. Post-war Cannon Hill homes often have original timber-framed windows with louvres or sash configurations that collect more dust than modern window systems.
Deck & outdoor area cleaning
Timber deck washing and outdoor area pressure clean. Cannon Hill's renovated homes often retain original timber verandahs and add new deck areas — both accumulate algae and tannin staining from surrounding vegetation, particularly on properties near Creek Road parklands where organic debris is constant.
Full home package
House wash, driveway, roof, gutters and windows in one visit. With Cannon Hill's market moving at 26 days on average and 14% annual growth, a full exterior clean before listing is a straightforward way to present the property in its best condition to a competitive buyer pool.
Our process for Cannon Hill's mixed housing stock
A 1950s fibro cottage and a 2020 rendered townhouse on the same Cannon Hill street need completely different cleaning approaches. We assess before we act.
Identify the material
Fibrous cement, weatherboard, chamfer board, brick render, or modern cladding — we identify what we're working with on each section of the property before selecting pressure, method and chemistry.
Pre-treat
Algae and mould on Cannon Hill's creek-adjacent properties are embedded in surface texture. Pre-treatment breaks down the growth at the root — producing results that last months, not weeks.
Correct pressure per surface
Soft wash for fibro, weatherboard and render. High pressure for concrete driveways and paving. Low pressure for roofs. Never one pressure across every material on the job.
Rinse & finish
Surrounding garden beds and paving rinsed down. Result checked front, side and rear. We don't leave until the property is clean to the standard we quoted for.
